Community Events Code of Conduct
Our community is as diverse as it is beautiful. This diversity is one of our community’s greatest strengths, providing us with new ideas, new perspectives, and new energy.
The Prospect Lake District Community Association seeks to lead by example and foster this diversity by creating and hosting community events that are inclusive, supportive, and safe for all those who attend.
Community members who attend our community events are expected to:
- Enjoy themselves and have fun
- Act and speak respectfully to others
- Speak-up when others do not act appropriately
- Help others who are in need
Disrespectful, threatening, or aggressive behaviour towards others will not be tolerated at our community events –period.
More specifically, andaligned with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, words or behaviourthat are disrespectful or discriminatory towards someone’s race, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, gender identity, age, mental or physical disability, or sexual orientation have no place and will not be tolerated at our community events.
In addition, unwanted sexual advances or suggestive behaviour or words are unacceptable and will be treated seriously –they are not funny, nor a joke.
Individuals who offend others by their behaviour or words will be asked to apologize directly or will be asked to leave the event immediately. No exceptions.
Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not an excuse for poor or inappropriate behaviour.
It is your responsibility as a community member to unreservedly come to the aid of others who are being treated inappropriately. Laughing things off or excusing another person for their disrespectful behavior is worse than doing nothing at all.
Our community events are a success because of the diversity of the people they attract. Behind the scenes, our events are largely organized and run by volunteers who have sacrificed their time to make your time enjoyable.
Please treat our volunteers as the stars they are –and remember they are doing their best. Thank them, encourage them, appreciate them, and if things aren’t quite working out right, show your gratitude by offering to help them.
